Kitty Hawk
Kitty Hawk is a classic diner style eatery located on the grounds of York Airport (KTHV). Kitty Hawk was formerly known as Orville’s before changing ownership in January of 2009. Their dining room ceiling is littered with highly detailed, hand built aircraft models, which are studiously assembled by one of THV’s lineman, Earl Worthington. Earls passion for aviation is expressed both in his work and his art, which hangs not only in the restaurant, but all throughout the airport itself. When eating at Kitty Hawk the atmosphere shouts “Aviation!” from all directions. From the ceiling, to pictures of bombers on the wall, to aircraft laden tablecloths, and finally the big glass windows which look out across the tarmac, there is no doubt your eating at a restaurant.
Despite the comfortable and classy environment, Kitty Hawk still delivers some of the best priced meals in town. With meals ranging from $3.50 to $14.95, you can enjoy many of Americas favorites including Eggs, New York Steak, Burgers, Crab Cakes, and even Homemade Baked Oatmeal (to die for!). My personal favorite is their homemade Cream of Crab. All of their soups are homemade and they usually have Cream of Crab, Maryland Crab, and Chili.
Many pilots fly into York Airport just to eat at Kitty Hawk, doing so waives the ramp fee, even without the purchase of fuel. Kitty Hawk, however, is very clear in advertising that they are “Open to the general public”. They encourage families to come bathe in the atmosphere of our local airport while enjoying quality food. It is a great opportunity to have a meal and watch aircraft take off and land, or even go tour the hangar for a close up view of aviation.

Call the restaurant at (717) 792-6234 to confirm, but I believe they’re open Tuesday and Wednesday, 7-3, Thursday through Saturday, 7-6, and Sunday, 7-5. They’re closed on Mondays. Have a great flight!
